DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKS COMMEMORATES WORLD'S MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKERS'S DAY

This year's world annual Medical Social Works day with the theme "Strengthen International Solidarity for Enduring well-being" was celebrated in a grand style at DUFUTH.
According to the Head of the Medical Social Works department Mrs Ogbonna Ijeoma Adaobi, the annual celebration usually holds every month of March, and this year's own happened to fall on the 18th March 2025.
She further eulogized everyone especially the poor and the oppressed to speak out, and approach her office to utilize and harness several opportunities and succour available since their core mandate is to serve humanity.
In her keynote address she explained the annual celebration centred on the vital role played by the social workers in problem solving around the world.
The event featured road walk, sesitization and public lectures from Mrs Anthonia Urom Ihuoma former HNS,
Dr Mrs Nnaji Chinwe - Member of the Department, and Mrs. Ebelechukwu Okeke former head of the department.
The resource persons emphasized on what social work is all about, the history, the roles it plays in the society, the requirement to become a medical social worker and the need to have passion for the profession before venturing into it since it is more of giving than receiving.
The highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of their new departmental scrubs, sharing of toiletries and eatables to the patients and the needy.
In her closing remarks, the HOD appealed to the management to help sponsor them to national annual seminars and conferences to enable them get equipped with more knowledge, experiences and certifications.
She promised a better outing in next year's world medical social workers day.
