In commemoration of International Women's Day, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at DUFUTH has organized a week-long Mother's Day celebration.
The event, themed "Celebrating Motherhood: A Timeless Bond," featured health talks and free cervical and breast screening exercises.
DUFUTH C-MAC, Dr. Darlington-Peter Ugoji, representing the Chief Medical Director, welcomed everyone and expressed gratitude for their presence and contributions to the event.
Dr. Lilian Nwobasi, President of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi State Chapter, who delivered the keynote address highlighted the challenges women face, including financial constraints, pregnancy-related problems, malnutrition, and lack of preconception care.
She emphasized the importance of women accessing affordable healthcare and international agency programmes aimed at reducing maternal mortality.
Other speakers included Mr. Okoro Chima Kalu, Head of Human Resources Management Department, who encouraged community women to access DUFUTH's health services, emphasizing that lack of funds should not be a challenge.
Mrs. Christina Uneke, Head of Nursing Services, also discussed the importance of women's health and pregnancy, while Mrs. Mba Oluebube of the Physiotherapy Department encouraged women to engage in physical exercise and antenatal physiotherapy exercises.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and a portrait gift presentation to the Chief Medical Director.
