A team of technocrats from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has commenced a comprehensive review of the organizational structure, departmental layout, and personnel of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH).
The exercise aims to align the hospital's operations with best practices and ensure conformity with established standards.
Led by Mr. Ugochukwu Nwosu, Deputy Director of Organization Design and Development, OHCSF, the team will conduct a thorough examination of DUFUTH's organizational framework, including its mandate, mission, vision, and five-year strategic plan.
The review will also encompass site visits to all departments, meetings with Heads of Department, and documentation of findings to inform a comprehensive report.
Chief Medical Director, Professor Uzoma Agwu welcomed the team, acknowledging the importance of the review in streamlining DUFUTH's activities and enhancing its efficiency.
She noted that the hospital has grown significantly since its inception, with about 50 active departments currently in operation.
Professor Agwu acknowledged that, as the pioneer leadership of DUFUTH, the hospital management team is still laying the necessary foundation and therefore open to guidance, adjustments, and corrections where needed, which informed the request for the visit.
The team highlighted the importance of the review, stating that it will enable DUFUTH to identify areas for improvement, eliminate functional overlap, and ensure alignment with statutory laws and uniformity in administrative and leadership structures.
The exercise is expected to result in a standardized template that will guide present and subsequent administrative processes in DUFUTH, with possible minor adjustments based on DUFUTH's specific requirements, if warranted.
The team assured a flexible and collaborative approach, working closely with hospital staff to ensure a thorough and accurate review.
DUFUTH's management, through the Acting Director of Administration, Sir Pius Ewa, had pledged full cooperation and support for the exercise, recognizing its importance in positioning the hospital for optimal performance and service delivery.
Other members of the team are Lekanmi Temitope, Jane Analwe, and Okorie C.
